Due to rapid technological improvements in the bikeshare industry, new possibilities are emerging with owning, operating, and funding a bikeshare system.
Technology Options :

Dock Based System: station-based system where bikes are checked in and out of docking points
Smart Bike System: check out and locking technology is on the bicycle with designated bicycle racks for locking
Dockless Bike System: check out with a mobile app using a QR code on the bicycle which unlocks a ring-lock located on the back wheel
Electric pedal assist bicycles and e-scooters are also emerging as options to compliment a bikeshare fleet.
Adaptive bicycles are configured and propelled differently than a typical 2-wheeled pedal-driven bicycle.
Many bikeshare systems offer subscriptions or point-to-point payment options makes 30 minutes of use very inexpensive, encouraging their use as a mobility option. People seeking a bicycle for casual riding over several hours or days may be better served by bicycle rental than by bikeshare.
